Wexcombe Farm has undergone many changes over the last 7 years. Changes started in 2014 with a move to zero tillage. Since then many more changes have taken place, on both the arable and beef enterprises, with an emphasis on soil health and regenerative agriculture. The farm walk will see examples of our latest practices both within the beef and arable enterprises.

On arrival at the grain store you will be welcomed with tea and coffee and a chance to network with other guests.

George Hosier will start the walk with an introduction into the different methods and practices that have been implemented at Wexcombe Farm and why he has taken this approach. There will be discussion on the replacing the more traditional seed drill with a Cross Slot drill (New Zealand Ultra Low Disturbance drill) which with well managed rotation can encourage fantastic bacterial and fungal populations in the soils. The discussion will continue with the integrating of Cover crops into the farms No-Till system. These mixtures of different plant types all grow together between the harvesting of one Cash crop and the planting of the next crop. Other topics will covered including livestock enterprise and how switching the cattle to the diverse cover crops when the grass stops growing, until the grass starts growing again in the spring enables the cattle to outdoor graze for 12 months of the year. The farm is also in Higher Level Stewardship (HLS) and some of the work undertaken under the scheme has helped wildlife to thrive at Wexcombe Farm some of which you may see whilst on the walk.

The walk will last between 1 and 1.5 hours returning to the arrival point. It will be over mixed terrain, so sturdy footwear is advised.
