Visit to Gloucestershire Energy from Waste facility

Gloucestershire Energy from Waste facility. Built on what used to be RAF Moreton Valence Airfield, Gloucestershire EfW uses non-recyclable waste to generate electricity by burning it at very high temperatures. The plant reduces greenhouse gas emissions by diverting 190,000 tonnes of waste from landfill.

The Gloucestershire Energy from Waste Facility is designed to significantly reduce the amount of residual waste landfilled in Gloucestershire by using the tried and tested technology of thermal treatment using combustion. This process is also monitored and regulated by the Environment Agency.

Aside from safely dealing with residual waste which cannot readily be recycled or composted, the facility generates the equivalent electricity to power approximately 25,000 homes, and contributes to Gloucestershire’s overall renewable energy production.

CLA members will be given a 45 minute presentation with time for questions and then a walking tour of some of the facility.

The walking tour takes in the Waste Reception Hall, Waste Bunker, a view of the waste burning on the grate we will also cover the Turbine Hall, Air Cool Condensers, Silos,  Induced Draft Fan and Bag House Filter treatment area.

You will need to be ok with walking at height and ascending and descending stairs.  All visitors must wear long sleeves, trousers and sensible enclosed footwear; any visitors not wearing the required clothing will not be able to take part in the site tour. All visitors will be provided with the necessary PPE, this will include a hard hat, safety glasses, gloves and a high visibility vest.
