Badminton Horse Trials

Badminton Horse Trials, staged within the beautiful grounds of the Badminton Estate, was first held in 1949 by the 10th Duke of Beaufort in order to let British riders train for international events. It is one of only six CCI5* events in the world marking Badminton out as a challenging competition at the pinnacle of the sport of eventing. Competitors compete in three disciplines; dressage, show jumping and cross country, with the winner taking home £105,000.

The Grassroots Championships, held over the two days prior to the famous international event, brings together winners from Regional Finals from around the country to contest the British Eventing Championship held at BE90 and BE100 level. It provides grassroots riders with the opportunity to compete on the hallowed turf of Badminton.

Alexander Bragg

British rider Alexander made his Badminton debut in 2017 and completed the following year. He returned last year but did not complete (King of the Hill). In 2022 with Quindiva he was 10th in the 4*L at Blenheim. Badminton will be the mares first 5*.

He made his four-star debut at Burghley 2016, has competed on British Nations Cup teams, was a reserve for the European Championships in 2017 and made the long-list for the World Equestrian Games in 2018. With former 5* ride Zagreb he completed Burghley, Badminton, Pau and Luhmühlen and in 2021 was 18th at Pau with King of the Hill.  

Agenda

10.15am – Arrival, tea/coffee, bacon (or egg) baps at lakeside pavilion

11.00am – Course walk with Alexander Bragg

1.20pm – Return to lakeside pavilion

1.30pm- Two course lunch

• Fillet of salmon with watercress mayonnaise or avocado & crème fraiche cream

• Poached chicken with a tarragon sauce and pea shoot garnish

• Pea, asparagus & goats cheese tart – V



• Classic homemade coleslaw with pumpkins seeds

• Roasted butternut squash salad with spinach, pine nuts & feta

DESSERT

• Strawberry & pistachio Pavlova with strawberry coulis

• Classic lemon tart with raspberries & thick cream

• Profiteroles with rich chocolate sauce

White/Red wine & sparkling elderflower is included.
