CLA Webinar: Public rights of way

On Wednesday 15 May at 12pm, the CLA will host an exclusive webinar, supported by Birketts, on what changes to the law governing public rights of way will mean for you and your business.

Birketts is a UK Top 50 Law firm with a specialist Public Access team who can assist landowners with all aspects of public rights of way law and practice. This webinar is tailored to help land-based businesses and private individuals understand how changes can be made to the public rights of way network and what difference the recent Defra Presumptions Guidance is making. It will also look at new legislation planned for later this year which will create a ‘Right to Apply’ for a change.

Join Claire Wright, CLA National Access Adviser, and Carol Ramsden, Consultant at Birketts, as Carol demystifies the complexities of public path orders and advises on how to approach achieving a change to the network.

The webinar, which is aimed at farmers, land managers and individuals with public rights of way over their land, will cover the following key areas.

  1. the basics of what we mean when we talk about public rights of way;
  2. how changes can be made to the public network when there is a pressing need or wish to re-locate a public right of way;
  3. Defra's Presumption Guidance - this guidance came into force in August 2023 and advises Councils dealing with applications for changes on the weight that should be placed on the impact that intrusive public rights of way have where they cross farm yards, private gardens or commercial premises; and
  4. the pending ‘Right to Apply’ legislation which requires Councils to determine applications for changes to the network within four months of receipt.

Book now to secure your place on this essential webinar. Please note that a Zoom link will be sent to all registered attendees on Tuesday 14 May.
