Visit a major farm diversification at Tewinbury and enjoy a coach tour of nearby Panshanger Park, a haven for people and wildlife.
Originally a dairy farm, Tewinbury has been home to the Williams family since 1931. In 1980, they sold the dairy herd, purchased some of the surrounding farmland and opened a farm shop and guest rooms in the family home.
Today, the farm features a hotel, shepherd’s huts and lodges. A 17th century barn provides a wedding venue and the estate is home to several farm-to-fork restaurants that celebrate British produce. The grounds are still farmed and owned by members of the family, who are proud of their agricultural heritage.
Following this visit you will travel by coach to Panshanger Park – a country park and nature reserve.
The park was bought by Tarmac in the 1950s, with the company progressively restoring the 1,000-acre site after it was used for sand and gravel quarrying. Maydencroft manage the park on behalf of Tarmac and it is now a mosaic of habitats including grassland, wetland, woodland and a chalk stream.
Countryside Stewardship funding is being used to create wood pasture and new parkland. You will hear about landscape recovery, natural capital and Biodiversity Net Gain during the tour.
Visit by kind permission of the Williams family, Tarmac and Maydencroft.
