Go behind the scenes of this unique farm diversification in Norfolk which is home to world-famous Thursford Christmas Spectacular and the world’s largest collection of steam engines and organs.
CLA member John Cushing OBE, the former President of Royal Norfolk Agricultural Association, took over the running of Thursford from his father in 1977 following a successful career in the commercial laundry business. Over time, he has completely transformed the site – which was once a farm with cattle sheds and other agricultural buildings. It is now a multi-million-pound tourism business.
The Christmas Spectacular has a professional cast of 150 singers, dancers and performers and is soldout throughout November and December. It has attracted over six million visitors since it began.
You will hear how John and his family plan throughout the year for their Christmas attractions. You will visit the steam engine museum and gain insight into the collection, have the opportunity to enjoy the vintage fairground rides, and hear Robert Wolfe on the mighty Wurlitzer.
You will also learn about John’s 20-year involvement with the USAF RAF Lakenheath and Mildenhall Honorary Commanders programme. After lunch, you can attend a forestry walk with John at his nearby woodland.
Visit by kind permission of the Cushing family.
