Having by chance, come across the energy potential of Methane (CH4) produced naturally by decomposing grass cuttings, they calculated that one square metre of grass contains roughly the energy equivalent of one litre of petrol. The numbers were compelling.
As a renewable energy innovator our mission is to provide clean energy to hard-working farmers, who are tirelessly transforming agriculture for generations to come. Bennamann’s CAPCH4™ technology enables farms and AD plants with a renewable fuel option by capturing and upgrading Biogas to Biomethane from farm waste, which reduces cost, creates additional revenue and cuts CO2 emissions.
Why Methane?
Methane has a Global Warming Potential (GWP) of between 84-87 times that of carbon dioxide over a 20-year timeframe.
• 42% of the world's methane comes from agriculture. 30% of this comes from livestock (47% in the UK).
• By 2050 the world’s target is to limit the rise of global warming by 1.5°C
• To achieve the 1.5°C target by 2050, we must reduce fugitive methane emissions by –200MTons / year.
• Rapidly reducing methane emissions; 34% by 2030, is vital if we are to limit global warming to 1.5oC.
By capturing the fugitive methane, we can make a significant dent in agriculture's environmental impact in a shorter space of time.
At Bennamann, we believe we've hit upon the solution that can transform farming from a perceived environmental problem into part of the solution. By closing the loop on farm waste and energy, we're helping create a more sustainable and profitable future for British farmers.
