The Midlands team are delighted to invite you to a bespoke visit to Sandon Hall and the Staffordshire AGM.
Sandon Hall, located in Sandon Staffordshire, the ancestral home of the Harrowby family, serves as a venue for various events, including weddings, corporate and public events. The estate encompasses 400 acres of formal parkland, gardens designed by William Eames and several historic structures, such as the Doric column erected in 1806 to honour Pitt the Younger.
The day will begin with the AGM and an update on the latest issues affecting members by CLA Director General, Isabella (Bella) Murfin. This will be followed by an introduction to Sandon Hall by either Lord Harrowby, Lord Sandon or Michael Eld.
The day will include guided walking tours of the historic house and 50 acre gardens. The house tour will offer a glimpse into elegant country house interiors and regale the history of the hall which the family has called home for over 200 years. Historical highlights include the story of the stunning Chinese wallpaper in the Drawing Room, which pre-dates the current hall by around 100 years. It will also tell of dramatic events – such the disastrous Christmas dinner that led to the hall burning down in the 1840s; and the rather morbid tale behind the portrait of a Prime Minister that graces the Dining Room.
There is an opportunity to wander around the 50 acre grounds with the Head Gardener. Learn about the seasonal work undertaken to ensure they reach their full glory in time for the summer wedding season.
There will also be a tour of the largest farm on the Estate to showcase the key milking platform. The owners will discuss their ethos, investments, current projects and plans for growth and development of the business.
There will be a two-course lunch before reverse tours in the afternoon.
Please ensure suitable footwear and clothing is worn as the tours will take place outdoors.
