CLA East: Westacre Estate Walk

Online registration for this event has now closed. If you would like to join the waiting list, please contact Emily-Rose Debenham at events@cla.org.uk

Join us for a farm walk at the Westacre Estate in west Norfolk, an estate on its way to full diversification.  Roughly 8500 acres in total, it comprises nearly 2000 acres of recently re-wilded ground along the river Nar, 700 acres of woodland, two major farm tenancies and 3000 acres farmed in-house.

Along with multiple farming partners, it manages a mixed rotational operation including pigs, chickens, geese, turkeys, sheep, blueberries, irrigated potatoes and veg alongside the more traditional cereal and root crops.  This farmed area also includes extensive areas under environmental stewardship options. To balance the farming enterprises, the estate hosts multiple external businesses through continuous redevelopment of redundant farm buildings which as well as a large housing stock, a trout farm, glamping and camping enterprises and several festivals, keeps the estate in a state of flux, creating a dynamic and ever improving environment for all those who live and work around it and the wildlife that share it.

The farm walk will be guided by Alec Birbeck and will include areas of river restoration and rewilding, concluding at the Duration Brewery on the estate.
