CLA Women's Network Leadership Series Event: Yes We Can!

Join us for the second of the CLA Women’s Network ‘Leadership Series’ events, entitled, Yes We Can! This event will see CLA Vice President, Victoria Vyvyan, talking to women entrepreneurs about running a rural business and the highs and lows of doing so.

Amy Eggleston is a dairy farmer and rural marketing specialist from Leicestershire. Amy returned from city life to join the family farming business in 2018. Alongside looking after 530 dairy cows with her father and brother, she also runs her own marketing business helping agricultural businesses promote themselves.

Amy showcases her business and farm activities online, using her Instagram account @thedairydaughter with 14,000 followers.

Bre Carrington-Sykes runs Pentre Mawr Country House and Wedding Venue https://www.unusualweddingvenueswales.com/. She has been in the hotel trade since 1989.

Of Irish origin, she was brought up on a mixed dairy farm and with her husband, returned to his ancestral home in 2008, right in the middle of the recession. They applied for planning permission to put up 6 African safari lodges.

Planning and building the business during the recession was difficult and having lost their main customer base of the early retired, they decided that Pentre was an ideal wedding venue. By 2019 they were doing 40 odd weddings a year, all 2 nights, all exclusive use and were closing for the winter. However, Covid hit hard, with only two small weddings last year, but they’re looking forward to a bright future once the restrictions are lifted.

Rebecca Jones has had a varied career beginning in the Racing Office of Juddmonte Farms in Newmarket, progressing through to the Press Office for the Minister of Agriculture (Wales) to PR Manager for Arriva Trains Wales and Business Development Manager in Oman.

She now lives at Shrawardine Castle Farm with her husband Stewart, where they have beef and arable enterprises alongside an increasingly diverse portfolio of self-catering accommodation.

Rebecca also has a millinery studio and showroom on the farm creating bespoke headpieces for wedding guests and race meetings including Royal Ascot. www.rebeccajoneshats.com
