This year's Annual General Meeting, generously supported by Savills, will be held on Thursday 14 October at Castletown Estate, Carlisle.
Working out what the future holds for land use, farming, environment and rural life is an increasing challenge. It strikes Castletown that the only thing it knows about the next 10 years is that it doesn’t know much.
Change seems almost certain to happen and as Castletown look at the land sector and its own business it seems clear that this sector is one going to be radically different in both public perception and use. This provides a fascinating challenge to the land manager. There are pitfalls a plenty but there are major opportunities as well.
Castletown's strategy at present is to follow Mr Jack of All Trades, but to keep a very firm eye on what the future is going provide. Change is coming, but what the business looks like at the end of this change cycle is not clear. Castletown is choosing to be optimistic about it all and look forward to hearing other views and ideas.
