By kind permission of Mr James Potter and Dave Futter, we are delighted to be visiting Leighton Farm and Yorton Farm Stud.
Yorton Farm Stud is located in the village of Leighton, near Welshpool at the Victorian - built Leighton Farm in 300 acres of the beautiful Powys countryside. The historic Leighton Farm was a model farm where national farming methods were employed using techniques derived from science and industry in the 1850's. It was characteristic of its period but especially notable for its scale.
The Grade 1 listed buildings have been tastefully restored and converted with the best possible standards of equine care in mind to house one of the country's fastest growing stud farms. With well-lit, spacious and ventilated stables, specialist CCTV monitored foal units and a range of paddocks suited to mare and youngstock of different ages. Yorton Farm is a fully equip modern stud.
We will congregate at the stud meeting room for tea and coffee. Following a welcome, we will be in the hands of John Marwick who will inform us about the history of the farm and the work now being undertaken by the current owners, Mr James Potter and family. John will then lead us around the buildings which are now being renovated with great care and sympathy.
Following the tour we have the great privilege of Mr Dave Futter showcasing some of his thoroughbred horses from Yorton Stud Farm which has wide recognition as one of Britain's fastest growing breeding operations, with the standing roster of stallions being in demand across Britain, Ireland and France.
Following lunch at the Royal Oak, Welshpool SY21 7DG, we will hold the AGM.
Please note that the tour of the buildings will take approximately one and a half hours. Please wear appropriate clothing and footwear for the weather on the day as we will be outside for a period of time.
