Fit for the future: preparing your business for a future without BPS
There are big changes in agriculture policy in England ahead and now is the time to start taking action, and plan for the future.
The first cuts to direct payments have been made with further larger cuts due in future years. By 2024, most BPS recipients will have lost at least 50% of their payments, and all BPS will be removed by 2028.
Defra has announced a number of schemes that will help farmers move away from reliance on BPS towards a more profitable and sustainable sector. The total funding is staying the same but there is no like for like replacement for BPS.
More details of the new schemes are emerging, with a clearer roadmap for future rollout. So, what do these changes mean for farming businesses? What is on offer from Defra? And what are the sensible next steps for business?
At the CLA we recognise that farming businesses are all different. Therefore, we are pleased to bring you a series of free in-person events across the North region on 9th and 10th March 2022 to help you prepare.
Each event will bring you:
- an overview of the changes in farming policy;
- discussions on the challenges and new opportunities; and
- an opportunity to talk to specialists on the different options for your business
These sessions will move beyond just giving the latest information from Defra and will allow more tailored discussions with experts so you can start thinking about what the changes means for your business and how you can best prepare for the future.
