CLA South West Farm walk at Emmets Grange, Simonsbath

Emmetts Grange, situated within Exmoor National Park and near to the Somerset/Devon border was built in 1845 by the Knights family who had purchased most of Exmoor from the Crown. After changing hands a number of times, finally in 1999 Ed Barlow’s parents purchased the farm. Whilst Ed was at University it became apparent the farm needed an extensive management overhaul and a forward thinking business plan in order to make it possible for it to stay in the family. Ed began to make some changes whilst away and has been at the farm full time since March 2020.
A diverse 900 acre estate which encompasses residential and holiday lets, an equestrian facility, wind turbine, grassland and moorland under higher tier scheme whilst rented out on an annual grazing licence, function barn and a small pig farming enterprise. The future plan for the farm is to continue diversifying and growing the business so that it is more sustainable and commercially viable. Ed will provide an introduction to Emmets Grange before taking members on a walk of the various enterprises around the estate.
