Navigating the Agricultural Transition
What do the latest agricultural policy announcements mean for farming business in our region?
We are now well into the agricultural transition in England, with a second round of Basic Payment Scheme (BPS) cuts in 2022, and further cuts due in 2023. By 2024, BPS recipients will have lost at least half of their payments, ahead of the final year of payments in 2027.
The cuts in BPS are being redirected into schemes that are focused on environmental land management. Today, the government announced further information about the Sustainable Farming Incentive which will provide farmers with a diverse range of paid actions to manage hedgerows for wildlife, plant nectar-rich wildflowers and manage crop pests without the use of insecticides.
During these two-hour sessions you will hear directly from representatives at the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA). You will also hear from:
• CLA experts who will discuss what the latest policy developments could mean for you and provide
practical advice; and
• Farm Resilience consultants will be offering free support and advice.
There will also be opportunities for CLA members to raise specific questions with CLA experts, DEFRA, and others.
These events are priced at £10 per person + VAT. For further information contact olivia.skeoch@cla.org.uk or call01748 907070. Food will be provided at each venue.
