CLA Midlands: Women's Network Visit to Burrough Court and lunch

This event is now closed for bookings.
Join us on Tuesday 23rd May at Burrough Court and networking lunch.

Burrough Court has over 100 years of history dating back to 1905, with links to the Royal family, Walter Brierley and Marmaduke Furness and was frequently visited by The Prince of Wales. Burrough Court Estate consists of 1,000 acres of arable farmland in the heart of rural Leicestershire producing cereals, oil seed rape and beans, as well as certain areas being part of the countryside stewardship scheme. The farm spans across two sites one at Burrough-on-the-Hill and the other 5 miles away in Pickwell.

Burrough Court was acquired by the Wilson/Keene family in the 1950’s. The warehouses were used to store potatoes for Walkers Crisps and peas. In 2000, Fred Wilson converted the courtyard into offices. Over the years Fred and Dawn Wilson have transformed the old potato store into business units and expanded the site with further units, a gym, yoga/Pilates studio and Coffee Shop to make it the successful destination it is today. More on Burrough Court history here.

The day will begin with a welcome from Dawn & Becky Wilson, 3rd & 4th Generation with an overview of Burrough Court. The morning will be followed by walking tours of the location of the original house, there latest project, a dog walking field and the diversification areas including a coffee shop, offices, co-working areas, meeting rooms, business units and there renewable energy offering across heating and electricity. There will also be opportunity to enjoy the views out across the farm towards the redundant viaduct and discuss countryside stewardship & woodland development.

After lunch, there will be the option to have a tour of the Get Busy Living Centre, a rehabilitation facility setup by the charity the Matt Hampson Foundation in the old hangar which housed Lord Furness private plane. As well as the 10th Battalion memorial garden erected in memory of those who lost their lives in the Battle of Arnhem. Lead by Friend of the Tenth charity co-founder Alec Wilson.
