CLA Midlands: Agroforestry Farm Walk

This event is fully booked. Waiting list in operation. Please contact the Midlands office on 01785 337010.

Join us for an informal farm walk with agroforestry pioneer, Peter Aspin, on his North Shropshire Farm.

Peter Aspin is the owner of The Hollies, a 40-acre organic farm in North Shropshire.

After taking over the farm in 1982 Peter quickly recognised the benefit the tall hedges provided to his livestock enterprise. Taking this a step further Peter started to create a silvopasture system, whereby rows of tree planting provided shelter in-between strips of grass which were grazed by cattle.

Some of the species Peter has selected are a little unconventional, but Peter will talk about his choice of species and the principles would equally relate to any silvopasture project.

With increasing interest in the opportunities provided by agroforestry and a SFI standard for agroforestry due next year, this is a perfect opportunity to see a well-established agroforestry project and pick Peter’s brains on the benefits to his farming system and learn from what he might have done differently.

You can view Peter's website at
