CLA North: Exclusive Tour of Lowther Estate Rewilding Project and Castle

The event is now fully booked

Attendees will benefit from an exclusive behind the scenes tour of Lowther Estate lead personally by David Bliss CEO. The tour will take in parts such as the completed works to the Japanese and Rose Gardens, the estate`s Eco-system management, wetlands, wildflower meadows, rewilding, extensive planting
scheme of 220,000 trees. Also
increasing the diversity of herbivores on the estate, including longhorn cattle, Tamworth pigs, red deer, ponies and beavers, wildlife has returned in abundance.

Following on from this lunch will be served then thereafter a full guided tour of the castle and grounds.

Lowther Castle is a particular gem. Built at the turn of the 19th century on the site of two previous houses, the castle was a grand affair boasting a room for every day of the year. Its gardens were the envy of the north.
But in 1957 the castle was demolished. Just the façade and outer walls remained standing and for over half a century, the place was empty – home only to chickens, pigs and the odd bat. The gardens were lost to wilderness.
