Browsholme Hall has a fascinating story to tell, being one of the oldest family homes in England. Over 500 years Browsholme has been adapted to the fortunes, tastes and needs of each generation of the Parker family.
Today, Robert and Amanda occupy all parts of the house; their children, Eleanor and Roland, were raised there and now live nearby. The house's survival within the same family has faced challenges, including untimely deaths and bankruptcies. In 1975, 20 year old Robert inherited the hall from Col. Parker, his unmarried fourth cousin once removed. At that time, the hall was in severe decline with 2,000 acres sold in the 1960's leaving only 420 acres of farmland and woods, and the building was virtually unliveable.
Recognising the need for the major restoration, the family moved to Lancashire in 1978 and, over the next 40 year, made the hall a comfortable home. Robert and Amanda took over in the 1990's, focusing on developing Browsholme within the community and ensuring its economic sustainability. Today, the hall boasts modern amenities, including biomass heating, energy saving lighting, clean spring water. It employs over 20 local people, contributing significantly to the local economy.
