| Jonathan Herbert, Viscount Clive will be the guest speaker at CLA London Branch's summer talk and drinks event. Following a career in medical research and public health, Jonathan joined his father, the Earl of Powis, in a full-time management role at Powis Estates in 2018. He then took over its running in 2022. Powis Estates comprises a large and diversified rural estate on the border between Montgomeryshire in Wales and Shropshire in England. The estates include a portfolio of residential and commercial properties, agricultural land, forestry and mineral and sporting rights. In addition, the estate owns and operates Ludlow Castle, a scheduled ancient monument and tourism destination along with event space, gift shop, wedding venue and luxury self-catering apartments. Jonathan will be joined by Jack Tavernor, estates director at Powis Estates. They will discuss how the ruined castle has been developed into the high-profile diversified tourist enterprise that it is today, and some of the key successes and challenges that are faced to keep it relevant for the 21st century. The talk will be followed by a Q&A and drinks reception, canapés and networking.
