CLA Southwest: 2024 Wiltshire AGM and Visit to East Farm

We are extremely fortunate to be able to hold the 2024 Wiltshire Branch AGM at East Farm, by kind permission of JM Stratton & Co.

East Farm is 1,800 hectares and a further 400ha is contract farmed.  This consists of 1,600ha of arable farming, 280 ha of extensive pasture grazing, and 200ha of woodland. Arable farming is the key operation, with a full range of combinable crops, most of which are direct drilled.

East Farm has a strong environmental profile, with a full-time ecologist and an extensive range of projects, both on the farm and across a number of local farms through its stewardship cluster group. The farm has a considerable range of renewable energy projects, with a 4mw Anaerobic Digestion (AD)  plant run on food waste, three solar fields totaling 100 acres, and a further 50 acres of solar in planning.  A new 3ha glasshouse is just coming on stream, which derives all of its energy needs from the AD plant.

The farm also has a range of commercial units, with 32 tenants in a range of buildings from 400sq ft up to 50,000sq ft. There are also 25 residential rental properties on the estate.

Josh Stratton has been running the family farm and businesses for 32 years. He is founder board member of the Environmental Farmers Group, and new natural capital trading cooperative with 191 members and 94,000 hectares of land.  Josh is also on the board of Salisbury Cereals, a grain trading cooperative.
