CLA Southwest: Making The Big House Pay and Budget Review

Bookings are now closed - please book via the office on 01249 599059
This seminar is aimed at those who have a substantial house and surrounding buildings, gardens, or parkland who are looking at new ways to generate a secondary income from their property.

The day will explore a range of topics designed to provide those owners with the knowledge and tools necessary to successfully navigate the challenges and opportunities of managing new ventures at the property.

Large country houses are often set in unique locations which provide a rich tapestry of heritage, tranquillity and splendour. However, they often have significant maintenance costs too. The upkeep of the property, gardens, and historical structures can be a drain on resources for their owners. Owners see themselves as custodians of the properties, preserving them for future generations.

To sustain these expenses and ensure the preservation of their heritage, many owners are turning to new business ventures based in and around the house.

This route offers a number of benefits:
- Financial Sustainability: Leisure businesses such as conferences, tours, weddings, events, and hospitality services can all generate useful additional revenue
- Economic Contribution: New ventures safeguard and create jobs and stimulate local economies
- Public Engagement: These activities promote cultural and historical education, allowing the public to engage with and appreciate the heritage of the property

Overall, adding a new enterprise based in and around the house can help large country houses remain sustainable and vibrant, as well as preserving and enhancing them for future generations.

The day will examine the essential aspects of running events, understanding the tax implications with recent Budget announcement, how to compete in the ever-growing leisure market, PR and communications, engagement and reputation management, options for funding the project, managing film crews and how to get involved in the filming industry, legal essentials and opportunities for the next generation.

Guest speakers will include:
Sam Wright & Christian Feroze, Investec Wealth & Investment (UK)
Anna Byles & Lara Weatherill, KOR Communications
