We are extremely fortunate to be able to hold the 2025 Cornwall Branch AGM at Trelowarren, by kind permission of the Vyvyan family, on Thursday 3 April 2025. CLA South West would like to thank Coodes Solicitors, Cornish Lithium and Environment Bank for their generous support.
For the last six hundred years Trelowarren has reflected the high and low fortunes of the Vyvyan family, but they only arrived when they married Honor Vyvyan in 1427. The house and land are recorded in the Domesday Book and, the Fogou at Halliggye is 2,500 years older than that.
On the south bank of the Helford River, made famous by Daphne du Maurier’s novel Frenchman’s Creek, Trelowarren is the historic estate that inspired her iconic tale of handsome smugglers, secret assignations in wooded creeks and political intrigue. She called Trelowarren, ‘a jewel’ and here it still is - a magical piece of old Cornwall.
Against that backdrop of the past, we have also built new. Since 2004 we’ve done our best to use natural building materials with as little embodied carbon as possible; and our new houses have ‘super’ insulation well beyond building regulations (some of our old houses are built of cob and thatch – they knew a bit about super insulation in the old days); and the new buildings are designed to fully exploit the beautiful natural Cornish light; and last, but not least, we led the way by installing a district heating system fuelled by a single bio-mass boiler.
