CLA North: Bridging Borders Forestry Conference

Bringing together leading voices in English and Scottish forestry, this event explores key themes shaping the sector and the future of forestry in the borders. Through expert presentations, case studies and a panel discussion, attendees will gain valuable insights into policy developments, market trends and the latest innovations in forestry management and productive forestry.

Designed for forestry professionals, land managers, landowners, and industry leaders, this conference provides the opportunity for meaningful discussion, knowledge exchange and collaboration, with practical takeaways to support the long-term growth and sustainability of the sector.

Organised by the CLA and Forestry Commission, this event is kindly supported by Egger UK Ltd, Euroforest Silviculture and Savills UK.


Agenda

Welcome and Introduction by event chair – Andy Leitch, Deputy CEO, ConFor.

The event will cover three distinct sessions.

1. Forestry in Northern England and South Scotland now and in the future: Markets, Innovation, Training and Skills, Resources and Winning Public Support                          

Jo O’Hara, FutureArk and ex- Head of Scottish Forestry - Forestry in the borders, past, present and future

Tom Coates, James, Jones & Son - Existing markets; their importance and potential for growth

Nicol Sinclair, Head of IFOS (Inventory, Forecasting and Operational Support) at Forest Research -Current Forest Research R&D – focus on satellite, drones, and operational use cases

Neil Harrison, Director, ReHeat - Future innovations and markets and the importance of skills

 

2. A variety of case studies, presented by front line practitioners either side of the Border.  What can the two countries learn from each other to help us overcome the challenges and reach planting targets?
