Oxton Estate is a diversified traditional family-owned estate encompassing arable land, woodland, grassland and a number of diversified entities.
Oakmere Golf Club was started 50 years ago by James O'Donnell’s grandparents and is a 27-hole course and wedding venue. This is where your visit will begin and where lunch will be served.
You will hear about the farming operation and how the family is converting farm buildings for a bakehouse and farm shop. Future plans also include retail and leisure facilities.
A commercial composting site has been operating at the main farm site since 2006 and is capable of processing up to 75,000 tonnes of green waste from the county. You will learn more about this on the day.
Oxton Estate is also home to the Tithe Green Natural Burial Ground – a unique diversification project set in beautiful surroundings. James’s late grandmother founded the site 25 years ago and it is one of the earliest natural burial grounds in the UK.
It is one of three sites overseen by co-owners, James and Helena O’Donnell, and is set in 40 acres of woodland and wildflower meadows in the southern part of the old Sherwood Forest.
Visit by kind permission of the O’Donnell family.
