CLA East: Suffolk Summer Visit and AGM 2025

The Jockey Club was founded in 1750 by some of the most influential figures in British society who shared a passion for horseracing. Initially, they held meetings in London at the Star and Garter in Pall Mall and also in St. James’ Street and Hyde Park. Soon the club relocated to Newmarket.

The Jockey Club Rooms have been at the heart of British racing for more than 250 years, and this is where your visit will begin. With corridors travelled by historical legends, reception rooms enjoyed by royalty and dining rooms adorned with equine masterpieces, the Jockey Club Rooms are a place like no other. You will hear about their extraordinary history as you tour the rooms.

Horses have been trained in Newmarket in preparation for racing for hundreds of years. During a coach tour you will visit the Newmarket Training Grounds, which are owned and managed by Jockey Club Estates and span 2,500 acres. Integral to its enduring status as ‘the headquarters of racing’ is Newmarket Heath. The land of the Heath extends to both sides of town and includes the two racecourses, the Rowley Mile and the July Course, which you will see on the day.

After lunch, guests can visit the nearby National Stud with Discover Newmarket for an additional charge. During this visit you will also hear about redevelopment plans the Jockey Club has for the town.

Visit by kind permission of Jockey Club Estates.
