The Midlands team are delighted to invite you to a bespoke visit to Shuckburgh Estate and the Warwickshire AGM.
Shuckburgh Estate has been home to the family for 900 years with records dating back to the Twelfth century. The family were engaged in farming, sheep grazing and owning land, and over time prospered and rose to importance in Warwickshire.
The original Hall circa 1200 was on the site of the present Front Hall, the oldest visible interior which has been dated by architectural style to around 1350. The house has been altered many times through the centuries but never demolished. It holds a number of original features and decorative features from past times, most notable is the Saloon, hung with 4 Bacchanalian tapestries (thought to be Mortlake) dates from around 1680.
The day will begin with the AGM and an update on the latest issues affecting members by CLA Director General Isabella (Bella) Murfin. This will be followed by an introduction to Shuckburgh Estate by Geoff Wilson senior partner of Godfrey-Payton chartered surveyors of Warwick and agent for the Shuckburgh Estate who will discuss the current make up of the Estate, ongoing projects and challenges going forward.
The day will include guided walking tours and a talk by our professional sponsors, Hunters solicitors and MHA Accountants as follows:
- A tour of the inside the house to see the four rooms open to the general public, explore the general history of the family and evolution of the Estate.
- A walk around the garden and grounds discussing farming, woodland management and sporting interest on the Estate to include a visit to the privately owned church.
- A talk by the Estate’s wider professional team and sponsors for today on Estate succession and tax planning in light of recent budgetary changes.
There will be a two-course lunch before reverse tours in the afternoon.
Please ensure suitable footwear and clothing is worn as the tours will take place outdoors and there may be uneven ground.
