The Midlands team are delighted to invite you to a bespoke visit to Hellens Manor, Westons Cider and the Herefordshire AGM.
Hellens Manor is a tudor manor house and living monument to much of England’s history. Attractions include heirlooms of Anne Boleyn, the haunted bed chamber prepared for Queen Mary Tudor, the panelled Music Room adorned with its English Renaissance frieze, paintings by Gainsborough, Van Dyke, Peter Lely and Goya, and the fascinating story of Hetty Walwyn.
The Hellens estate covers 150 acres of ancient SSSI woodland and wild flower meadows, including orchards with ancient trees, lush meadow-land, ponds and the SSSI Hallwood, with the remaining land farmed for arable crops. They have an ongoing regeneration project to begin the restoration of natural processes to the land in its care, to steadily restore health and diversity to the area, while recapturing carbon in the soil and in the growth of new plants.
The day will begin with the AGM in the barn and an update on the latest issues affecting members by CLA Vice President Joe Evans, followed by an introduction from Hellens Manor. The morning will include guided tours of the house which will introduce you to the history, characters, and ghosts at Hellens Manor.
You will enjoy a two-course lunch in the Barn. After lunch, you will head over to Westons Cider for an exclusive tour and tasting where you will see the inner workings of the cider mill and the fermenting and maturing of the harvest applies before blending and packing. Please note, you will need to drive yourself to Westons Cider. It is a few minutes’ drive away from Hellens.
Please ensure suitable footwear and clothing is worn as the tours will take place outdoors.
