Join us for the AGM at Welshpool Golf Club - Set high on Golfa Hill, beautifully positioned above the market town of Welshpool, the course offers a truly remarkable golfing experience.
With 18 magnificent holes, the layout winds across elevated fairways, providing panoramic views of the Mid Wales countryside, the Shropshire hills, and the mountains of Snowdonia as a stunning backdrop.
Welshpool Golf Club was first established in 1894 within the historic Deer Park of Powis Castle. The club later moved to Red Bank, on the town’s outskirts, before settling in its current home on Golfa Hill in 1930 and is leased by the estate today.
The course was designed by James Braid, one of golf’s most influential course architects and a five-time Open Champion. His design philosophy, working with the land’s natural contours, remains central to the playing experience today.
Steeped in tradition and surrounded by spectacular scenery, Welshpool Golf Club continues to offer golfers a historic, memorable, and uniquely Welsh game.
Adjacent to the course is an area of land owned by Powis Castle Estate that has seen the recent 'Welshpool Fairway to Haven Project' -The aim of this project was to make the most of the extensive areas of habitat by managing them thoughtfully for the benefit of nature. These valuable natural spaces offered a unique opportunity to support and enhance local biodiversity.
By maintaining and improving these habitats, they continue to provide a safe and thriving environment for the wide range of wild animals, plants, and fungi already on the site. This ongoing support was crucial in ensuring the long-term health and resilience of these species.
'In addition to our ecological goals, we were committed to improving access to nature for local communities. By creating more opportunities for people to explore and connect with the natural world, we hoped to foster a deeper appreciation and understanding of the environment'.
Through education, engagement, and access, they aimed to inspire and empower people to play an active role in protecting and celebrating local biodiversity.
The estate together with local wildlife trusts, have been working to safeguard key species such as the pearl-bordered fritillary butterfly on this site.
