CLA Midlands: Walton Lodge Farm - Heritage breeds & sustainable farming tours & Derbyshire AGM

The Midlands team are delighted to invite you to a bespoke visit to Walton Lodge Farm and the Derbyshire AGM.

Steve Perez is an entrepreneur and the owner of  360-acre Walton Lodge Farm, Peak Edge Hotel, and Casa Hotel. In 1997, he founded Global Brands in Chesterfield, which produces and distributes popular alcohol and soft drink brands, including VK, Hooch and Franklin & Sons.

Walton Lodge Farm Estate, set on the picturesque edge of the Peak District, offers an inspiring insight into sustainable farming in practice while upholding the highest standards of food safety, environmental stewardship, and animal welfare. Nestled within this stunning landscape, the small working farm is home to a diverse range of livestock and a thriving colony of honeybees.

Significant investment in renewable energy, including a solar biomass system, has reduced reliance on fossil fuels and lowered carbon emissions. Through its Woodland Management Scheme, the farm is enhancing biodiversity, improving soil health, and creating valuable wildlife habitats. Participation in the Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) Scheme further demonstrates Walton Lodge Farm’s dedication to environmentally responsible agriculture, successfully balancing productivity with long-term care for the land and future generations. Every aspect of the operation from sustainable farming methods to compassionate animal care reflects a deep commitment to protecting both nature and the animals that call the estate home.

The day will begin with the AGM at Peak Edge Hotel and an update on the latest issues affecting members by CLA Vice President, Eliza Ecclestone, followed by an introduction to Walton Lodge Farm by Steve Perez.

The morning will include a guided tour of Walton Lodge Farm to explore the diverse range of livestock including native-breed Belted Galloway and Highland cattle, hardy Dorset sheep, heritage Berkshire pigs, free-range chickens. The farm also uses poly tunnels and home grown produce used in the kitchens and a solar biomass system.

You will enjoy a two-course lunch at Peak Edge Hotel before departure.

Please note, you will need to drive yourself/car share to the tour of Walton Lodge Farm. It is a 5-10 minute drive.

Please ensure suitable footwear and clothing is worn as the tours will take place outdoors.
