CLA Midlands: Tour of farm diversification, agri-tech projects & succession & Warwickshire AGM

The Midlands team are delighted to invite you to a bespoke visit to Squab Hall and the Warwickshire AGM.

Squab Hall is home to a dynamic, family-run business built on innovation, resilience and diversification. Originally founded as a farming enterprise in the 1930s, the business has continually evolved in response to changing economic and industry pressures. Today, alongside farming, Squab has redeveloped its site and now runs an award-winning removals and self-storage business, confidential shredding service, The Hide Café and a secure dog field, all operated in-house and rooted in the same values of quality, service and sustainability.

What began in 1933 as a small dairy farm, when Timothy Idris Evans moved with his cattle from Wales to Squab Hall in Warwickshire, has grown into a thriving multi-enterprise organisation.

The farming enterprise, T.I. Evans & Son and Windmill Farming, encompasses over 1500 acres of owned, rented and contract-farmed land. With a range of soil types and a rotation including winter wheat, barley, beans and oilseed rape, the farm continues to adapt through technology, collaboration and a strong focus on environmental sustainability.

Throughout its growth, the family’s vision has remained consistent, to build a business that is both financially and environmentally sustainable, spreading risk through diversification while keeping farming firmly at its heart. The business now spans farming, removals, storage, workspace creation, shredding and hospitality, creating a genuinely community-focused rural hub.

The day will begin with the AGM and an update on the latest issues affecting members by Joe Evans, CLA Deputy President, followed by an introduction to Squab Hall, the farm and businesses by Emlyn Evans, Director of Squab and family member.

The morning will included a guided tour of the Squab site and farm to include a look at the recently installed six acre dog field, a tour of the storage facilities, which provide over 150,000 sq ft of space to over a 1000 business and household customers in a range of different sized high quality, warehouse based storage units. You will observe some unique approaches to the way in which the spaces have been developed to accommodate different users including an indoor training pool in a converted shipping container, a golf simulator, offices with a view and even a training house for teaching the removal team.  You will spend some time reviewing the farming operation, which uses a range of technology to help with its efficiency and environmental impact and discuss the challenges the business has had with Joint Venture farming.

You will enjoy a two-course lunch with a visit to the container café for some lunch and refreshments where discussion will continue around succession and how the family have embraced a family charter and a proactive approach to an education programme for the next generation.

Please ensure suitable footwear and clothing is worn as the tours will take place outdoors.
